*This summer the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library will be teaming up with Arkansas State University’s Department of Teacher Education and the Arkansas Delta Writing Project to hold a week-long summer creative writing camp for students who will be entering grades 8-12 in the fall of 2018.
“Licensed teachers from the Arkansas Delta Writing Project will facilitate student-centered writing, art, and music events so youth writers can interact with one another to publish and share their creative expressions in a safe and fun environment. This project is supported by the A-State Department of Education, The Department of Teacher Education, the Arkansas Delta Writing Project, and the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library.”
To be considered, students must be able to come to each day of the camp. There will be exercises and readings to be done for each session. At the end of the camp, students will have a polished short story, a poem, the outline of a draft, or whatever they choose to write that they will share during the end ceremony with parents and friends.
The camp is completely free, lunch, snacks and a t-shirt will be provided. Transportation to and from the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library will not be provided. The camp will run from June 25-June 29, 2018 (Monday-Thursday will be 11-3, and Friday 5:30-9).
To be considered for the camp, students will need a recommendation from a teacher or administrator, they will need to fill out the application (see email from Mrs. Keller), and will also have to supply a sample of writing. When students complete the application, they can return it to Jessica Horton at the Craighead County Public Library anytime (in person, by mail, fax, or via email) or can get to Mrs. Keller, and she will get it turned in for you.
